Organizational Structure

I Members

Any person teaching a speech course at a CUNY college is automatically a member of CLASP. Any member may join a committee.

II Committees

The following standing committees will be established: Standards, Books, Speech Across the Curriculum, Technology, Membership, Colloquium. Ad Hoc Committees may be established and dissolved by the Council as the need arises. Each committee will be headed by a chair and a deputy chair. The name, contact information and photo of each chair and deputy chair will be listed on the website.


The functions of the chair will include:

  • Recruiting members from multiple CUNY campuses.
  • Convening meetings on a regular basis.
  • Communicating the activities of the committee to the general membership by regular postings on the CLASP website.
  • Serving a two-years term to aid continuity.
  • Identifying a deputy chair to assist and/or substitute.
  • Identifying a successor.
  • Attending meetings of the CLASP Council.

The function of the deputy chair is to assist the chair and substitute when necessary.

III CLASP Council

The CLASP Council will be composed of all committee chairs and deputy chairs, plus the officers emerita, and the organizers of the previous year’s Colloquium. It will function as the steering committee of the organization. The CLASP Council will meet one to two times per semester. From among its members, the CLASP Council will elect a President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. All officers will serve two-year terms which, henceforth, will begin June 1st.
